The Tone Poet series was launched in late 2019 as an audiophile vinyl reissue series from Blue Note Records. These recordings are from lesser known sessions and groups and are remastered from original tapes using an all analog process (AAA). These releases are marked by their high fidelity and long sought after music. These two are just a small sample of what you can expect from the rest of the series.

Lonnie Smith - All In My Mind

There are so many titles from the golden era of Blue Note that have been released in this series, but I wanted to choose a more recent selection. This live date from Lonnie Smith and his band has the organist in fine form and sounds sublime. Check out the arrangement of ‘50 Ways To Leave Your Lover’ for some outrageous guitar work.

Donald Byrd - Byrd In Flight

Release: 2020 // Label: Blue Note Records

“Byrd In Flight” features Trumpet player Donald Byrd with two different quartets that feature some of the best Blue Note players ever. Hank Mobley and Jackie McClean take turns on saxophone and the result is gorgeous compositions by Byrd with soaring improvisation throughout. This also stands out as one of the best sounding Tone Poets and that is a hard thing to claim, as the whole series sounds fantastic.
